The Legend of Sleepy hollow, by washington irving
The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is a ghostly tale based on the Folk tale, Headless Horseman. The Headless Horseman was a Hessian soldier who lost his head in battle. Each night, he roams the countryside in search of his missing head.
Ichabod Crane is the new school master (teacher) in the town of Sleepy Hollow. He was described as a tall, thin with long arms and legs. Katrina Van Tassell invites Ichabod to her father's Halloween party. She is the daughter to the richest man in Sleepy Hollow. Another character, Brom Bones is jealous of Ichabod, and wants him out of Sleepy Hollow. Brom Bones tells the story of the Headless Horseman at the party, and scares Ichabod Crane.
Ichabod rides home and meets the Headless Horseman through the words. The story says that it was Brom Bones dressed as the Headless Horseman. No one knew what happened to Ichabod Crane after that terrifying night.
